Calorie counters' nightmare

La pastelería holandesa puede ser una verdadera pesadilla si estás planeando controlar tu peso.


Me di cuenta de este pequeño detalle durante la primerísima hora en que estuve en Holanda. Para darme la bienvenida a casa Onno preparó café y me ofreció algunas de las más deliciosas galletitas que probé jamás. De hecho, trajo a la mesa una pequeña bolsita con galletitas redondas que cambiaron mi vida para siempre: Stroopwafels.
Los stroopwafels son delicatesen típicamente holandesas.


Están hechas con 2 capas bien finitas de obleas (waffels). Luego se coloca entre las mitades un relleno que las pega juntas, hecho de un jarabe tipo caramelo, azúcar negra, manteca y canela. Glupppppppppp!!!

Encontré este video gracioso que muestra cómo comer debidamente un stroopwafel. Es en inglés pero vale la pena! "How to eat an stroopwafel".
Le pregunté a Onno si él come los stroopwafels del modo como se explica en el video, pero me miró como si estuviera ebria. Simplemente respondió: "Yo vivo en Holanda desde hace 38 años, y para comer stroopwafels sólo tenés que abrir la bolsa y comerlos lo más rápido posible"....

Otra pesadilla son las galletitas! Tantos tipos y taaaaan deliciosas. Con bloques de chocolate sobre ellas, con caramelo, canela, con cientos de chips de chocolate, frescas, crocantes. Podés pensar en "la galletita de tus sueños" (si es que tenés una, si no, pensá en tu favorita) y te aseguro que las galletitas holandesas van a superar tus expectativas.



Así que cuando vengas a Holanda preparate para ganar algo de peso. Pero es por una buena causa! Y en todo caso, sabés cuál es la mejor manera de superar una tentación?... Por supuesto: rindiéndote a ella! :-)

The dutch patisserie could happen to be a real nightmare if you are planning to control your weight.

I realized about this little detail within the very first hour that I was in Holland. To welcome me home Onno made coffee and offered me some of the most delicious cookies I've ever tried. In fact, he brought to the table a small bag with circle-shaped cookies that changed my life for ever: Stroopwafels.
Stroopwafels are a typical dutch delicacy.


They are made with 2 quite thin layers of waffles. Then a filling made from syrup, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon, is spread in between the waffle halves, which glues them together. Yummieeee !!

I found this funny video that shows how to properly eat a stroopwafel. "How to eat an stroopwafel".
I asked Onno if he eats stroopwafels like the way it's explained in the video but he looked at me as if I were drunk. He simply answered: "I've been living in Holland for 38 years, and to eat stroopwafels you just open the bag and eat them as fast as you can"....

Another nightmare are the cookies! So many types and sooooo delicious. With chocolate blocks on top of them, with caramel, cinnamon, with hundreds of chocolate chips, fresh, crispy. You can think about "the cookie of your dreams" (if you have one, otherwise think about your favourite one) and I can promise you that the dutch cookies will exceed your expectations.


So when you come to Holland be prepared to gain some weight. But it's for a good cause! And in any case, do you know which is the best way to get over a temptation?... Of course: surrender to it! :-)
